Paul Atkins has been sworn in as the new chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), replacing Gary Gensler who was widely seen as the crypto industry’s antagonist. Atkins’ appointment comes after Mark Uyeda and Hester Peirce have already started guiding the SEC towards greater acceptance of digital assets. The agency has formed a crypto task force, shed a list of enforcement actions, and held crypto roundtables. Staff have also announced that various corners of crypto fall outside its securities jurisdiction.
